Current Faculty Member of the Harvard Business School Brings 20 Years Experience in Retail Logistics
Boston, Mass., November 30, 2010 – Digital Lumens, developer of the industry’s first Intelligent Lighting System™, today announced that José Alvarez has joined the Company’s Board of Directors. Alvarez has significant management experience in the supermarket industry, most recently as President and CEO of Stop & Shop/Giant-Landover, a subsidiary of Royal Ahold, NV. Alvarez now serves on the faculty of the Harvard Business School and holds Board positions at TJX Corporation and United Rentals, Inc.

Prior to his appointment as President and CEO of Stop & Shop, Alvarez held senior positions as the company’s Executive Vice President of Supply Chain and Logistics, and as Vice President of Strategic Initiatives. Previous experience included serving as Vice President of Grocery Merchandising for Shaw’s Supermarkets and Director of Market Research for American Stores.
In addition to his Board positions at TJX and United Rentals, Alvarez is on the boards of the Massachusetts Chapter of the Nature Conservancy, the Commonwealth School, the Joyce Foundation, Princeton in Latin America, and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Additionally, he is Chair of the Advisory Council of the Massachusetts Business Alliance for Education. He holds an MBA from the University of Chicago and is a graduate of Princeton University with an AB degree.
